When Veronica Syrtash joined CMRRA in 1999, the music industry looked very different than it does today. Over the past 27 years, she’s witnessed the shift from physical music formats to digital, helping CMRRA navigate a constantly evolving landscape of music licensing. Now, she’s stepping into a new chapter of her career as Chief Business Officer, Reproduction Rights.

From the early days of peer-to-peer file sharing to today’s licensed download and streaming landscape, Veronica has been closely involved in how CMRRA has adapted to changes across the industry. Her work has spanned music licensing, copyright policy, advocacy and business development, including complex negotiations with digital music services, record labels, broadcasters and other industry partners, helping advance the interests of music publishers and rightsholders.

In her new role as Chief Business Officer, Reproduction Rights, Veronica‘s role is to champion reproduction rights by continuing to oversee the business affairs of the company, and to help guide CMRRA’s business strategy, advocacy, and industry relationships. Her appointment comes as CMRRA begins a new chapter following its acquisition by SOCAN, bringing the organizations’ important work closer together.

Veronica’s contributions have also earned industry recognition. In 2025, she received the Women in Music Canada Honours Award for Career Achievement and was named to Billboard Canada’s Power Players list, recognizing her longstanding contributions to Canada’s music industry.

As CMRRA enters its next chapter, Veronica will continue working alongside the team to support music publishers and self-published songwriters, building on the relationships and industry experience developed throughout her career.
