Thank you for being a client of CMRRA!  Whether you’re newly affiliated or an existing client, this guide will help you navigate the next steps to register your works, manage your catalogue, and ensure your royalties continue to flow smoothly.

Registering Your Musical Works
Keeping your catalogue up to date ensures licences are issued promptly and royalties are accurate and complete. There are three ways to register your songs with CMRRA:

  1. CMRRA Song Registration Form: This is our standard format Excel document that allows you to provide claim information for multiple musical works and it can also be used to submit revisions to existing claims. Completed forms are submitted via email. We also offer a tutorial on how to fill out the form here as well as a guide to the form in our Help Centre.
  2. Single Song Registration via CMRRA Direct: This tool, available through the CMRRA Direct portal, supports single-song registrations and is intended for priority works with activity (such as streaming, airplay, or other usage).
  3. Common Works Registration (CWR): If you have a large catalogue of works to register, or multiple catalogues that you administer, the Common Works Registration (CWR) format is used in the industry by many music publishers. To learn more, please review the details in the Help Centre.

Registration timelines vary depending on the submission method, with processing times differing based on how works are submitted.

Tip: CMRRA is constantly trying to improve our systems. We are able to ingest the CMRRA Song Registration Form into our database and take advantage of advanced matching logic.

CMRRA Direct
We encourage all clients, new or existing, to register for CMRRA Direct, our secure client portal. Access is not automatic, so you’ll need to create an account.

Through the portal, you can:

  • View and manage your works
  • Use the single-song registration tool
  • Review licence details
  • Access royalty statement information
  • View important royalty distribution communication

When will you receive your royalties?
CMRRA distributes royalties quarterly: March, June, September, and December. Payments are issued once you meet our minimum threshold of $15 gross CAD. Any amounts below this threshold are held and carried forward until the next payment cycle.

Tip: Ensure your banking and payment information is up to date in CMRRA Direct.

Keep Your Catalogue Up to Date
As you release new works, be sure to register them using one of the options outlined above. Keeping your catalogue up to date helps ensure your royalties continue to flow.
