Canadian Music Week (CMW) was the epitome of adaptability during its 2021 virtual music conference. Last week’s attendees had access to live & archived panels, networking events, and streamed music events, despite the restrictive social and travelling barriers brought on by the global pandemic.
Keynote speaker Mike Huppe, President & CEO of SoundExchange, addressed the music industry’s state of crisis and what its post-pandemic state will resemble. Mike shared his thoughts on the new business models that have been adapted in these last 15 months, our ways around the complexities of new and exciting innovations and provided suggestions on improving the well-being of the music industry.
CMRRA’s Legal Counsel Andy Hunter discussed the topic of the music industry’s evolution on his featured panel. How to secure online concert revenue dissected online concerts versus traditional concerts. The panel dove into reproduction, performance, and sync rights and highlighted how they come into play with online concerts and performances.
It is not too late for CMW attendees to access the archived Canadian Music Week panels, and learn more about online concert revenues, the wellbeing of the music industry, and rights and revenue streams.
