As a CMRRA publisher client, you are aware that CMRRA is Canada’s leading reproduction rights licensing collective representing the vast majority of music publishers and copyright owners doing business in Canada.
CMRRA has always focused on the needs of you as a publisher and has had client service at the center of all its activities. Over the past couple of years, you have seen us use technology to continually improve your client experience. This has led to increased royalty distributions as a result of our expanded matching capabilities, and to greater transparency in the electronic reporting that we supply with each distribution.
In May, we announced the acquisition of CMRRA by SoundExchange. CMRRA continues to work independently and serve you while also searching for collaborative opportunities with Sound Exchange.
A Canadian Publishers Committee has been established to provide direction on central issues impacting your business here in Canada. The CPC exercises considerable discretion and autonomy on Canadian advocacy and rate setting activities and is the voice for our music publisher clients here at CMRRA on these issues.
The CPC is appointed by the Board of the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA). Vincent Degiorgio , Chairman of CMPA, stated last May the CMPA supports CMRRA and SoundExchange on this important announcement. “We are especially pleased to see the establishment of the Canadian Publishers Committee that has been established to oversee and maintain the advancement of the interests of CMRRA’s publishers clients in Canada.”
Neville Quinlan of peermusic is the Chairman of the new Committee. The other members are: Jeff Brabec (BMG), Jana Cleland (Red Brick Songs), Michael Abitbol (Sony/ATV Music Publishing), David Kokakis (Universal Music Publishing), Bryce Seefieldt (Warner Chappell Music Canada), Diane Pinet (Bloc-Notes Music Publishing), Jodie Ferneyhough (CCS Rights Management), Daniel Lafrance (Editorial Avenue), Mark Jowett (Nettwerk Music Publishing), Chris Giansante (ole) and as a non-voting member, the executive director of CMPA, Margaret McGuffin.
