About Us

CMRRA is Canada’s leading reproduction rights management organization, supporting music publishers and self-published songwriters. We handle licensing and royalty administration, ensuring that creators are fairly compensated when their music is reproduced across various platforms and media. We work to accurately track, license, and collect royalties on behalf of music publishers and self-published songwriters, making sure they receive the payments they’re owed. Who We Represent

We work on behalf of music publishers and self-published songwriters who own the rights to the majority of songs recorded, sold, streamed, and broadcast across Canada. Our clients entrust us to manage and negotiate licensing agreements, collect royalties from a range of licensees (including Apple, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube, TikTok, and radio stations), and ensure timely royalty distribution. 

Our expansion into international partnerships enables us to collect digital royalties from the U.S. and other global regions, supporting our clients’ growth and global reach. Learn more about International Collections.

Our Legacy

Cyril Devereux

Founded in 1975, CMRRA has played a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s music licensing landscape. As the market leader in both mechanical licensing and reproduction royalties, we’ve been at the forefront of key changes in the industry, adapting to the shift from traditional formats to today’s digital platforms. Throughout our history, we’ve continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of music publishers and self-published songwriters, ensuring their rights are protected and properly compensated.

Cyril Devereux served as CMRRA’s first General Manager and Treasurer, championing Canada’s songwriters and music publishers with dedication and vision. Trained as an accountant, Cyril moved to Canada post-WWII at the request of the Dreyfus brothers to lead Chappell Music’s Canadian division. Later, he became a foundational leader at CMRRA, delivering results marked by wisdom, insight, and unwavering commitment to the community.
